CCHE Round 1
UPDATE 20 May 05
We were informed that the CCHE Board has approved the award of
$50,000 to the Knight Foundry Corporation. The matching grant will
be used for environmental studies and possible mitigation at the site,
ensuring that we are a good environmental neighbor and a safe place
for future workers and visitors.
Here's the text of our Press Release.
Here is the CCHE Press Release.

In September, 2004, after an intensive effort, the Knight Foundry
Corporation submitted a proposal for a grant of $1,772,000, which was half
the estimated cost to acquire, preserve and allow the return to operation of
the Foundry. (CCHE grants have a 100% match requirement, i.e. we must
raise the other half in other grants, donations and in-kind gifts).
Here is the
main part of the proposal.  It reflects specific questions by CCHE.

Out of over 230 proposals submitted, the Corporation was one of
approximately 50 finalists selected to give a short (5 min.) presentation to the
CCHE Board of Directors in Sacramento on 13 December 05.
Here's what
Board Members Jay McCauley and Margaret Mills presented.

After a reportedly intense debate, the Board announced 33 recommended
grants, one of which was $50,000 for the Knight Foundry Corporation. The
recommendation is still tentative, pending CCHE Staff followup and a vote
by the CCHE Board.

On a rainy Friday, 4 March 2005, CCHE Executive Officer Diane Matsuda
and Research Program Specialist Frank Ramirez visited the Foundry. You

While nothing is certain in the world of grant proposals, we felt that our
proposal was a strong one, and matched the goals of the CCHE quite well.
We are pleased to have made it this far in the process, and were delighted
to host the Staff on their visit. Cross your fingers, rub your lucky rabbit's
foot, etc. and hope that the CCHE Board approves the proposed grant.
